LOL got home and what happened to my hair??:( |
Anyways enough of the ramblings as usual. If you have been natural and read the title? You would probably think I have been on some sort of crack apparently. Lol who talks crap about the LOC method?? That's disrespectful, how could you?
Lol well..you really did read that. My hair has survived a phase lol and still on a mission to get my edges back. I am trying to tweak a few things starting with this LOC.
First of all, I would like to say that it's okay if things that everybody is raving about don't work for you. It's okay to be different lol. It's okay if it works for you and doesn't for me. Even people with similar hair textures, have different heads. Not every product or technique works for everyone, lol it's never a rule and even if they were rules? We are strong enough to break them. With that being said?? Let me break a few things down.
THE LOC METHOD
If you haven't heard of this? Fret not. It's basically a way people believe to retain moisture. The L= Liquid,O=oil and C= cream. Any liquid like plain old water or any leave-in is applied first, an oil of choice preferably essential oils that can penetrate the shaft like EVOO or Coconut oil is used, then a cream of choice which sometimes is a styler or shea butter is used.
MY PROBLEM WITH THIS METHOD
well, for the most time..this is what I have been doing, worked for me initially at the start of my Journey. One thing I failed to realize is that I should be listening to my hair and its needs. I Forgot that nothing is truly permanent and my hair is subject to change.
I actually started to question a few things, like the oil is meant to be a sealant right? So what is the benefit of the cream? If I am putting in an oil this is basically to seal or keep the moisture from the leave-in or liquid in, nothing goes in and nothing goes out. So why then will I proceed to add a butter or cream on top of this oil?? Like what is that supposed to do for me since it won't be penetrating?? Act as an extra sealant?? Or just sit on my hair and just cause build up? I am really not understanding this.
Truth is the oil basically Just acts as a barrier so that moisture doesn't get in or go out. This is pretty much why the cream or butter added on top doesn't penetrate. It just sits there and does nothing. If this works for you? That's lovely please continue to do you but I realized my hair doesn't need that right now or maybe never? Well let's see.
WHAT I AM DOING DIFFERENTLY.
Well, if you just can't live without putting three products on your hair at the same time, You might try the LCO. Lol just tweak this thing a little bit yunno😊. So basically, days when I really want to moisturize my hair, like my hair is major thirsty and in need of some refreshment? I would Add the oil and cream and then seal the both in with an oil.
This is like going to be rare for me lol. I don't see the need in using theee products on my hair, if you have known me since the start of my hair Journey..this might shock you because I am pretty much a product junkie lol.
I have actually realized my hair can deal with the less products. In previous times, I do the LOC when I just finish a wash. Thinking about it right now makes me cringe. Like, why do I need to add an extra moisturizer when I just washed my hair and it's damp?? It already has a liquid or leave-in which is the water. So I would rather just go ahead to use shea butter which acts as my cream and then an oil lightly, focusing more on my ends where the hair is the oldest.
Really want to work the oil into the ends to keep in as much moisture as it can since this is the oldest part like I stated earlier and the part that is really prone to getting dry.
Subsequently, other days or every other day that I need to moisturize, I would rather opt for a liquid based moisturizer in a spray form, like the Aunt Jackies curl relieve or refresher( lol can't remember y'all) or the cream of natures own. Been using the both of them lately.
I don't also think it's necessary for my hair to use both a leave-in and a styler like the shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie that I usually opt for or any moisturizing curler at all with a leave-in at the same time. Most of these curlers or styling products are moisturizing btw and heavily water based. If my hair is dry and I want to do a twist out or braid out or any styling, I would just go ahead to put in the styler in each section I want to twist since this would moisturize it, then add my oil to the tips to seal that in.
Butters on it's own are heavy, I don't see the point in putting a leave-in, oil and butter at the same time. If I am going to have it in a protective style like braids, then I would do that but opt for the LCO method instead. Times when I have my hair out, I don't see the need for limp weighed down hair.
Like I said earlier, this is just my personal opinion on this method. Once you become natural, everybody seems to tell you LOC, LOC.....Please don't listen to people and just do what works for you.
SUMMARY
1. So basically after each wash, I would just put a butter once my hair is damp because the water would act as a moisturizer.
2. I would just add a butter which is shea butter in my case and seal with an essential oil.
3. I would be skipping the leave-ins for wash day.
4. Leave-ins would not be used when I am also going to be using a moisturizing styling product. Its too much moisture my hair doesn't really need.
5.If I ever decide to put two products on my hair at the same time?? I would rather use the LCO method instead of the LOC.
6. This is because I believe that oils are sealants that act to keep things in place, nothing goes in and nothing does out. Its quite unnecessary for me to add a cream after sealing with an oil as this would just sit on my hair and not penetrating, Just causing buildup.
7. Adding a leave-in, an oil, cream and then the styling product is unnecessary to be and would just way down my hair, way too much moisture and too long to dry.
OPINIONS ARE MY OWN LOL..
